005. Super Gal Weekend

Last weekend, my gyaru-sa Champagne Pop finally all met as one and had a great time here in Chicago!

Siobhan made it here first on Thursday but when she arrived... her bags weren't with her! After some serious looks and maybe some tears we sorted out the luggage fiasco and headed to my home to get some sleep and wait for her bags to come from St. Louis.

We'd originally planned to go to Navy Pier but seeing as Sio's makeup and clothes were still en route, we just hung out in my apartment and got to know each other a bit better. As everyone arrived one by one, we decided to head out to Round 1 in a nearby suburb to get some purikura together. While everyone got ready, Sio, Panda and I went to go pick up her luggage so she could finally join in on being "Super Gal" for purikura and the rest of the weekend.

I didn't get any great shots of my makeup or outfit but I did do solo purikura so I have that to show!

I was actually amazed at how gorgeous everyone was! I couldn't stop thinking "Wow!! These women are absolutely fabulous, how did I get so lucky to be in such an amazing circle??" I think I even said that to a couple of people, maybe too many times!

My favorite purikura of the night is definitely this one of myself and Autumn!

Because we got to Round 1 a bit late, we actually ended up doing purikura until the place shut down, so we didn't leave until 2AM. I don't really know what sparked this, but I started taking pictures of everyone in the parking lot... and it got a bit interesting!

After that we went back to my apartment to sleep and get ready for Harajuku Fashion Walk Chicago!
I actually never know what I'm going to wear to these things and I was kind of worried... but this time I decided to give manba makeup a try, and even though it wasn't perfect, I really liked it and I think it's a big part of me having so much fun this time around!

The fashion walk went "as usual" with a group of about 20 or so people showing up to participate. It was overcast for the first half of the walk but then it got sunny and REALLY hot. But luckily that was towards the last 15 minutes of the walk so we didn't have to be outside too much longer.

After the fashion walk, we ate at Flat Top Grill (which will always be amazing) and we went to go get ready for karaoke! We were having fun at karaoke for about 2 hours until there was an incident that made us leave, but we just headed back to my place for more bonding and talking.

We also welcomed a new member to the circle! Her name is Jori, and I've known her for a while and I know that she has had a love for gyaru for years now, so I'm glad she's finally giving it a chance with us!

I realized after everyone left that we never got a group photo together, but after thinking about it, I think that it's nice to have a group of people who are all into the same fashion to hang out and to take pictures with, but I think we have something better than that. We all love gyaru, but we all love each other too!!

I think it's amazing (and maybe even rare) to have a gyaru circle in the west that is full of amazing gyaru who all truly care about one another and are genuinely a big group of friends. I realize that I'm extremely lucky to be in the position I am in and I am so thankful for it.

I can't wait until the next time my circle is all together again, but until then I have some wonderful memories to hold me over!

004. Short Update

I'm not good at blogging lol.

A lot has been going on as far a gyaru-sa activities and wedding planning!

My gyaru-sa recently changed it's name from "NEON" to "Champagne Pop". We felt like it really captured the feel of our group well, and of course we LOVE the highlighter by the same name. This weekend my gyaru-sa is going having a big meet here in Chicago and I'm really excited! We will finally be 100% together! I promise I will write a blog post about it!

As far as wedding planning goes...
We finally picked a wedding venue and it is *gorgeous*!!

We've chosen the Garfield Park Conservatory in our city for our ceremony and reception, so now it's really crunch time!

I also bought my dress! I can't wait to be able to show everyone.

I promise to take lots of pictures this weekend and to make a massive post or two about the weekend! I also promise I'll post more... For real this time!

003. Summer Gyaru Inspo

Yesterday was the first 80°F day in Chicago and it really got me into a summery mood!

I started thinking about what I want to do in terms of evolving my current style (which in my opinion is super basic) and growing as a gyaru.

It got me thinking about how, a while back a friend of mine called me 姉貴/あねき (which is an informal way of saying sister, basically it's "sis"). It's stuck with me since she called me that for a couple of reasons, mainly being that I care for her a lot (like a little sister, honestly) and it really made me smile to think she thought of me like that, even though we haven't known each other long. The other reason it stuck with me is because, as of late Ane Gyaru and Ora Ora have been very appealing to me, style wise. Those styles are mature and stylish, but still has that edge that I think is so important to the type of gyaru I aspire to be

I've pretty much decided that this year will be when I truly go head long into gyaru and become the gal I always dreamed about being.

So, this summer I'm looking to my three favorite Japanese gyaru for inspiration, because they really embody the Ane/Ora Ora style that I want to achive! Yun, Mipochi and Manya!

I am getting a hair cut very soon and Yun's bob is exactly what I want! I would love to have that color but I really love having dark hair so who knows.. Yun's "mature cool" vibe is what I'll be going for whenever I have a night out with my friends!
I really like Mipochi's current dark hair, it makes me feel better about keeping my own dark hair in my gyaru looks. Her laid back style is what I'll be trying to achieve in my everyday outfits and makeup.

Manya is just all around cool and I REALLY love her Ash Blonde hair color. If I do end up coloring my hair, there's a 90% chance it will be like hers.

I think I'm well on my way to achieving this goal already, but I know I have a long way to go. Wish me luck!

002. Champagne Pop Gyaru-sa ☆

Recently my gyaru-sa has changed it's name from NEON to Champagne Pop (like the illuminator!)

The name change came from wanting something that fit a broader range of styles since we have many different substyles within the same group. Along with our name change, we picked up two new members! I think it's really great that everyone in our circle is comfortable with one another, because it really fosters our interpersonal relationships. No one is afraid to ask for help, and everyone is ready to help when asked!

We had a meet at Round 1 in Bloomingdale and took purikura and did karaoke, which was really fun then went back to my apartment to crash. Hopefully we have another meet really soon!

001. Fresh Start ☆

I've been away from most social media for a while but I've decided to have a bit of a fresh start here on my blog and start from scratch again since it looks like my life is getting a fresh start!

☆I'm getting married!☆

Words can't describe how happy I am to be the future Mrs. Odden(Ko) and I'm really looking forward to spending the rest of my life with Robbie ☆

We've chosen January 17th, 2017 as our wedding date, but it seems so far away! Sometimes I just want to throw everything to the wind and go get married right away, but I know I'll regret it if I don't have the big wedding I always dreamed about. As I've learned very quickly, getting married here in Chicago is SUPER expensive, with the average cost of a wedding being $61,000! While we're definitely not looking to spend that much, I've found it's hard keep things inexpensive, so pray for me while we search for suitable vendors!

I've been procrastinating about planning the wedding because there is so much to do and so much money to spend and it just gets really overwhelming to think about.. With about 8 or so months left to plan, I really have to kick it into high gear and start getting serious. I've attended a couple of bridal shows and I have some gown appointments set up, but that's only the beginning of a very long "to do" list. Hopefully we can choose a venue before the end of the month is up so that everything else can begin to fall into place.

I'll be diligent about updating the blog often with wedding planning updates, so stay tuned! ☆
